Why
Feckless politicians. Media sycophants. Vacuous fame whores. Imperious men of the cloth.
These are the members of the incestuous ruling class. They know better than you because they are better than you. You have two options: shut up and do what you’re told; or, demand integrity and refuse to accept the whole premise. We chose door number two.
In an ideal world, politicians lead, media enlighten, celebrities entertain, preachers inspire — all for the benefit of the nation. But we live in this world, where integrity is antithetical to the acquisition and maintenance of power; where the tools of discourse are demagoguery and duplicity; where sincerity is faked without irony; where you are expected to embrace the fiction. A world of overclass egoists all too willing to deny those ‘beneath’ them the liberties they have ensured for themselves. A world teeming with leaders who are nothing more than leechers, sucking dry a complacent populace: politicians peddling influence with a side of pork, with one hand around your shoulder and the other on your wallet; media accomplices feigning sober objectivity as they spoon-feed you talking-points factoids strained through a poisonous sieve of propaganda; celebrities flaunting their heroic virtue by publicly flogging the cause célèbre du jour that could only be spurned by everyone who is literally Hitler; preachers declaiming your only hope is to climb into the ontological box they’ve discovered and close the lid behind you.
In a world built on manipulation and deception, cynicism is vital. Cynicism is an agent of accountability; the first and last line of defense. Cynicism lays bare the lies, obfuscations and bureaucratic entanglements that exist to divert your attention from the true motives of those who lust for power.
And, here, cynicism is applied directly to the forehead of the overclass. With a sledgehammer.
Do not surrender your allegiance unearned.
